We are more that halfway through 2011 and the top 5 games are still yet to come!

5. Resistance 3

The Resistance Series has given us some great memories over the years. And even though the first game was overshadowed by games like Call of Duty I still feel that it is a much more well structured and enjoyable game. In the last 2 games in the series players played as Sergeant Nathan Hale (I wont spoil the end of the second one for anyone) but in the next instalment players will take control of one of Nathan’s squad-mates Joseph Capelli who takes up the opportunity to strike a heavy upon the Chimeran forces after teaming up with Dr. Fyodor Malikov. The game will retain the same gameplay style but some changed have been made such as new environmental objects and some new weapons like shrapnel grenades. The game is due to be released on September 6, 2011.

4. Modern Warfare 3

If you managed to find this page you will probably be very aware of the next instalment of the Call of Duty series which is due to be released in November. Even though it’s being made by different developers this year most gamers are still hopping that it will retain its unique, addictive online gameplay and maybe even an interesting single player campaign. Activision have already said that there have been some changes to the online multiplayer, such as getting rid of some perks and changing the killstreak system. This will also be the first Call of Duty game to be integrated with the Call of Duty Elite system which is a subscription service that adds more stats and extras to players accounts. The game is due to be released on the 8/11/11.

3. Battlefield 3

The amount of gameplay footage that has been released for Battlefield 3 has been astonishing and it really has shown us how much effort Dice have put into this game. A new engine, new guns and new maps will make a an awesome gaming experience and one that no one will be forgetting for a very long time. If EA manage to stick in a good single player campaign this time it has the potential to be very, very good even though I wish EA return to its World War 2 roots. The game is due to be released on October 25, 2011.

2. Star Wars: The Old Republic

The key to making a successful MMO is in the gameplay. If you get that wrong, no one will play. When the game was first revealed gamers were a little bit sceptical as to how the game would perform but afters a few years of polishing and refining the game looks smooth and unique unlike a lot of MMOS which have came out recently. However some testers have been complaining that the game is horribly overbalanced and a group of enemies 3 levels higher that themselves would pose no real threat. The game is due to be released later this year.

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Set 200 years after the events of Oblivion, this new instalment takes place in the snowy mountainous region of Skyrim. A God names Alduin has taken the form of a dragon and has emerged to destroy the world. Players take control of one of the last living Dovahkiin (Dragonborn) and must defeat Alduin and save Skyrim. The game has a new engine and has some updated gameplay mechanics to make the game more enjoyable. For example, players can now dual weild; the blocking system is more interactive and the AI has been updated so that NPCs ”do what they want under extra parameters”. The game is set for release 3 days after Modern Warfare 3 on November 11, 2012.

    You missed a few there Stu. No love for Gears of War 3, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Rage, Assassins Creed: Revelations, etc? Of the 5 you’ve got listed here, I’m not interested in any of them :)

    This list needs to be a top 10 cause there are that many serious game of the year contenders. Including Deus Ex Human Revolution, Rage, Guild Wars 2, and everything KindOfArcadia said above. To limit it to 5 is not good just cause this is going to be one of the most exciting times for gamers I have ever seen in my 25 years of life.

    All the games shown here will be without a doubt amazing. This is a subjective list from the author, that means that it’s the game he is the most excited about, ok? So please just enjoy the amazing variety of games that will come out in the next months. For me the list would be:

    5. Deux Ex: Human Revolution
    4. Skyrim && Mass Effect 3
    3. Battlefield 3
    2. Dark Souls
    1. Uncharted 3
