Today is the day that Call of Duty expands further into the social world.                                           Today is the day that I can pay to become ‘elite’ on CoD.                                                               Today is the day I frankly don’t give a crap.

2 million gamers around the world are about to, or have already received their copy (or whatever you want to call it) of the new Call of Duty: Elite service. The service provides players with thorough statistics of their gameplay such as shot accuracy, standard kills etc.

Emails containing players login instructions have been rolled out worldwide today and will continue to do so for the next few weeks. And when the service goes up when Modern Warfare 3 is releases these players will get the chance to compete for in-game and real world prizes.

To be honest with you though, I really don’t give a dam about this ‘subscription service’. It’s just more nonsense for Activision to shove down the nose of the consumers so that they have more and more money.

The Call of Duty franchise is one of the best selling video game franchises in the world and so I really don’t see why they need charge for the ‘elite’ service. I’ve lost a lot of trust in the Call of Duty games because of the mistakes they made in Activision and I’m a bit wary of spending £40-60 on one of their games let alone a subscription service.

If you’re like most people, you going to have to pay for your internet service and gaming fees. You’re probably going to be buying the DLC maps for Call of Duty on top of that too. So are you really going to want to put an extra fee on top of that just to get a few extra perks?

That being said, you don’t have to buy the service. But if you do, you should seriously be thinking, “Why the hell am I paying for this!?”

Personally I think ‘elite’ is going to be a failure. But they probably will make quite a bit off of it. Activision need to focus on making a ‘good quality game’ before they start making smart ass little gaming condiments.
