Black Ops 2 : The silver lining in the cloud that is Call of Duty?

I’m going to be perfectly honest, I don’t hate call of duty. Sure, I dislike its horrific community of 12-year olds, the publisher’s need to sell the games for ludicrous amounts of money, the game’s horrific tactics and gameplay, and the general fact that the exact same game, with the same sounds, same weapon models and almost near-identical gameplay is sold every single year, and every year the number of people buying it increases ten-fold per year whilst good, solid games that are genuinely fun to play gather dust. But, I’m a completely sucker for levelling. I mean come on, who doesn’t love unlocking, upgrading and levelling-up? That being said, Black-ops 2 – developed by Treyarch – , is looking promising by getting rid of some of these features I strongly dislike. Very promising.

As we’ve seen with Black Ops, Treyarch like to experiment. CoD points, Customizable player emblems, Wager Matches, flamethrowers and a lovely lack of quick scoping. This experimentation is what I like, as games’ sequels are meant to keep what made the game great, and expand what was deemed a problem or a failure. I enjoyed black ops significantly, it seemed like a totally different game compared to Modern Warfare 2, unlike what Modern Warfare 2 did seem like to Modern Warfare.

And, they’ve kept that tradition it seems. Treyach have overhauled the game again, as we’ve seen from the various new attachments ( Sonar sights, IFF sights, Selective fire, Iron sights on Rifles ) and new equipment ( Shock grenades, Guardian DEW, Quadrotors ,Tanks ), and what appears to be multiple-team deathmatch. It’s looking good so far, I’ve got to be honest, but we have to wait for the 13th of November until we can ultimately decide whether Treyarch have brought some new life into a milked franchise.

The multiplayer trailer for Black Ops 2 was released only a couple of days ago, and already people are picking it to shreds. Why not give it a quick look here?
