Most people, including myself, often play a variety of different consoles and never think twice about the sounds that had been floating in and out of our ears when we’re playing. However, if you ever happen to listen to the start-up sounds of a console, the music will always link back to a certain game.
The first instance where I really noticed this happen was with my PS3. The very first thing you hear when you turn on your PS3 is this chilling sound which really gets into your head. In case you’ve got no idea what I’m talking about I’ve linked in a little video of it just to show you. The first game I ever played on the PS3 was Resistance: Fall of Man which I received with the PS3. And so every time I’ve turned on my PS3 since first playing it I’ve been hit with memories of playing Resistance. And when you really think about it, Sony must have spent ages trying to get the right sound they wanted people to hear when they first booted up their machines.
I have the exact same experience with my PlayStation One too. My brother and I would never stop playing Crash Bandicoot when we were younger and so this is the game I am reminded of every time I switch my PS1 on. Heck, even the Windows 98 start-up sound reminds me of the game Hover.
Bellow is a few start-up sounds from different consoles and operating systems. Have a listen to them and tell us what games or moments popped into your head.
