What gets your blood pumping when you play Oblivion?

With the release of Skyrim looming closer, it got me thinking back to Oblivion and what made it such an amazing game for me. Even though it was bugged more than an ant’s nest and the voice acting made you want to rip off your ears and throw them in a river there was some much yummy gaming goodness within that game which I think most games nowadays are just not providing. Here are my favourite things about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Feel free to share your favourite moments in the comments section.

5. The Quests

Oh god, I could go on forever about how much we loved these bad boys. Instead of the grind method of questing in games like World of Warcraft and Rift, players were bestowed a marvellous amount of quests that you could tell had been well thought through. My favourites had to be the Dark Brotherhood quest line. The sneakiness, the pure evil of it all is enough to make one drool with excitement. My favourite quest was the one where you had to enter a house full of unsuspecting guests and kill them all without them finding out it was you. I set a save point on that specific quest just so i could see what different outcomes I could get by killing them in different orders.

4. The Adoring Fan

This annoying little bugger turned out to be a lot of fun after I watched a particular video on youtube. I would purposely take him to the top of tall mountains and underwater to see how many weird and funny ways there were to kill him.

3. The Map

Cyrodiil is an awesome place. From the Chilly mountains of Bruma (my favourite) to the dank swamps of Leyawiin it’s hard not to get caught up in the beauty of it all. I would constantly find my self walking off into the lush wilderness and end up getting completely lost. The different quests throughout the game also get you up and about exploring the province of Cyrodiil. But don’t forget to save game, or you’ll end up getting stuck in rocks and having to start from far back.

2. The Sneak Skill

Slipping on my Dark Brotherhood armour and sneaking into the night was always one of my best moments in Oblivion. Standing on the top of a building and picking off targets from a distant without being noticed was always fun to do. Sneak was always the first skill I levelled up because it allowed me to enjoy the game a whole lot more once I did so.

1. Modding

Sorry console players, but you’re missing out on so much. There are thousands of hours of gameplay waiting to be had in the vast amount of player made mods that are available for the game. Capes, Quests, Dragons, Flying carpets are a few of the modding marvels that have blessed Oblivion. Check out tesnexus.com for a look at some of the mods.
